Tyrosine is a white, crystalline amino acid that is obtained from the hydrolysis of proteins such as casein and is a precursor to the catecholamine hormones (e.g. epinephrine), thyroid hormones (e.g. thyroxine) and several neurotransmitters (e.g. dopamine). The l-isomer is present in most proteins. Although it can be synthesized in the body from phenylalanine, specific therapeutic effects may only be obtained through additional supplementation.
Directions:
