NOW L-Arginine

L-Arginine supports protein and creatine synthesis, nitric oxide production and the detoxification of ammonia in the body. L-Ornithine to support and maintain nitrogen balance. Athletes typically intake higher amounts of protein for energy and muscle repair, but the metabolism of protein increases the amount of waste products such as blood urea nitrogen, so consumption of supplements to help balance nitrogen levels may be important for athletes. This combination of arginine and ornithine targeted to athletes and active individuals allows for supplementation of these 2 amino acids in one convenient capsule.

Arginine is considered a semi-essential amino acid, because although the body normally makes enough of it, supplementation is sometimes needed. For example, people with protein malnutrition, excessive ammonia production,  excessive lysine intake, burns, infections, peritoneal dialysis, rapid growth (e.g., infancy), urea synthesis disorders, or sepsis may not have enough arginine. Symptoms of arginine deficiency include poor wound healing, hair loss, skin rash, constipation, and fatty liver. In the body, arginine is metabolized via inducible nitric oxide synthase to L-citrulline plus nitric oxide. The natural metabolism of arginine to nitric oxide in the body causes blood vessel relaxation (vasodilation). L-Ornithine is a non-protein amino acid, used in the body in the biosynthesis of L-arginine, L-proline and glutamic acid. L-Ornithine is part of the Urea Cycle which was the first metabolic cyclic pathway discovered. The l-isomer of ornithine is the amino acid formed when l-arginine is hydrolyzed by arginase; not a constituent of proteins, but an important intermediate in the urea cycle; with irregular levels seen in certain defects of the urea cycle. A properly functioning urea cycle is important for removing excess ammonia in the liver.

Adult Dosage: Take 2 capsules, 1-3 times daily, between meals. Do not use beyond 8 weeks.
